Lunchtime meanderings

I've been out for a wander at lunchtime. The joys of working in the North Laines are the number of small, interesting streets and shops to wander around and the large choice of food available.

Today I made the mistake of going into one of the bookshops. A place crammed with bookshelves, with small printed labels giving the topic of the section. More downstairs! Just one 'assistant', a middle-aged man who sits behind the counter at ground level, said hello when I entered and otherwise totally ignored me until I wanted to buy something. No seats, no coffee, just books. Second hand I think, with the prices hand-written in pencil on the inside of the covers.

I couldn't resist. I bought a book on Le Corbusier. I don't want to look it up on Amazon, because I'm almost sure it will be cheaper. The man at the desk served me, put the book in a brown paper bag, gave me my change and apparently dismissed my presence completely before I'd put the change in my wallet even.
