Yesterday I attempted to run the Reading half marathon. I picked up my first ever DNF, thanks to the lovely thick cold I've had for the last 2 weeks. 

I find running so frustrating for that. If the race had been a week later, I'd probably have been fine. (Low on training, but still.) As it was, I was nearly better, but I just still can't quite use all of my lungs. I knew almost as soon as I started it was not a good idea, but managed to keep moving forwards until I made it back to the stadium. I just skipped a 2 mile loop into Green Park and back, completing 11 slow miles in 2 hours 15. 

Until I picked up that cold, I was on track to do the whole thing in around 2 hours 15. 

Still, that's not the race I'm aiming for, so I can pick myself up, dust myself down and find another half to enter. Plus there's still a lot of training miles to get done, so plenty of time to redeem myself. I'll just have to use this as further inspiration for training over the summer.
