Early Strawberries

Early Strawberries

The first couple of days of new job have gone well. Fingers crossed that will continue.

I had to post this because the weather has been so cold and damp and nasty for the last couple of days. I ate these probably last weekend. The second and third strawberries of the year. The first one I was over-eager and it was a little tart. These were lovely.

There are more ripening too. Yum!

Growth

After a recent computer meltdown (yeah, lost stuff, it's taken hours to restore everything, yeah, should back things up) I found a photo of the garden taken ages ago.

At least, I thought it was ages ago. It looks like not long after we dug it all out, which was aeons ago clearly.

Last day

It's my last day in my job.

Last days are kind of odd. At school there were lots of you leaving at once. Everyone was in the same place. At work though you tend to be the only one. As far as everyone else is concerned it's just a normal day. They will be back in on Monday, and the only difference will be that I'm not here. To be honest, at this job I'm not even sure they'll notice! I'm pretty damn sure I won't get a card.

I haven't really found a way to make corporate life work for me. I can't be bothered with the politics and 'visibility', and the scale (to me) seems too large to do anything effective. Lots of people seem to cope with it just fine, so perhaps it's just me being inflexible. I've never been terribly good at jumping through hoops.

I'm really excited about my new job (starts on Tuesday). Although you never really know what a job is going to be like until you get there, I have high hopes for this one. Which is a little nerve-wracking. We'll see how it goes...

*Cough*

After my last post I've spent the last 4 days feeling lousy with a cold. Today I still feel pretty rubbish, but it's my last week in the job so I've dragged myself in. And I've organised some leaving drinks later, which was higher up my list of priorities.

I don't really think I can blame the sitting around in wet socks though - GG had this cold a couple of days before I did. We both took Friday off, and spent most of Friday and Saturday lying on the sofa arguing (in a tired, sick kind of way) about who's turn it was to make tea this time. Normally we just make it! Occasionally one of us would be so fed up of just lying there feeling rubbish we'd attempt to get up and do something (so clearly it's not 'flu) before collapsing again. Nice. Sunday would probably have gone much the same way if GG hadn't got this cricket match at the Oval to play in. As it happens, she probably would have preferred to stay on the sofa. It won't go down as a vintage performance. Still, it was a good match to spectate at. Really tight finish. Unfortunately Surrey lost on the last ball, needing 1 more run to tie.

We did go see my brother's new house though. Now, I like orange. We have chosen to paint our hall and landing yellow and orange, that's how much I like it. His house is more orange than I can handle. We have offered our painting assistance. In fact, I offered a wide range of GG's hard-won DIY skills! I'll be in the garden...

Yesterday was back to lying on the sofa for me. I don't have time for this! Worst of all, my home computer got sick and unfortunately in restoring it I kind of lost everything on it. There isn't too much I'll miss. Some photos I'm a bit peeved about (although a lot are on Flickr), some uni work (which has all been handed in already, fortunately). It's just a pain getting it back to functional. I tried yesterday, and it's pretty close now. Got the framework in place, just need to reinstall some critical apps. I may be trying OpenOffice... And thinking long and hard about a back-up procedure!
